President Luis Lacalle Pou said that “I did not expect anything else from the PIT-CNT”regarding the criticism for the announcements this monday, where the president reported a 3% increase for retirees and 2% for public officials since next July. “That the PIT-CNT has said that (the announcement of measures) is insufficient, does not surprise me” because the union central “has had a systematic opposition to the government”pointed out Lacalle Pou when consulted by the press, in Salto this Wednesday.

The president confirmed the meeting that the PIT-CNT will have this Thursday with the Minister of Labor, Pablo Mieres, and said: “They have had all the meetings they wanted, and they will continue to have them, there is no problem.” However, he expressed: “It is difficult for us to agree”. The union leadership will consult if the adjustment will be an additional increase or on account of the adjustment.

Lacalle Pou, for his part, pointed out that “he was pleasantly surprised” that “some leader” had said that the measures are “going in the right direction.” “At least they gave us one; insufficient but in the right direction,” he said.
