The rainy that were recorded this Tuesday and early Wednesday in the municipality of Higüey, caused the overflow of the Anamuyita River.
Members of the Civil Defense and the Army of the Dominican Republic came to the scene to monitor the area.
Fernando Castillo, director of Civil Defense, said that they are in the streets since 4:00 in the morning, monitoring the rivers and visiting the most vulnerable neighborhoods.
He explained that so far only the overflow of the Anamuyita River, above the Anamuya bridge, has been recorded.
He commented that this does not present a danger to any home, since the route it has does not pass through any neighborhood and pours its waters into Macao Beach.
He assured that so far everything has gone normally, but that they expect a lot of rain for today, so they keep their personnel active throughout the province for any incident that may arise.
He revealed that it is important for the population to be attentive to weather conditions, especially those who live in vulnerable places, such as on the banks of rivers.
He recalled that the province has many sectors that are on the banks of the Duey and Quisibani Rivers. “Among these neighborhoods are Los Soto, La Florida, Las Siete Laguna, Villa Palma, El Guzmán, among others,” she said.
He stated that they have several shelters identified in case it is necessary to evacuate some families.
He also explained that they have more than 60 volunteers and that they are activated in case of emergency.
Despite the fact that the river is overflowing, the community is not isolated, because it has an outlet through the Bonao community.
Similarly, people could be seen crossing the river with a large flow of water, without fear of being swept away by the current. Relief agencies deployed personnel around the river to prevent people from continuing to commit this recklessness.
