The Federal Police (PF) carried out an operation today (20) to repress illegal shrimp fishing in Angra dos Reis, on the south coast of Rio de Janeiro. According to the PF, 9 kilos of the crustacean were seized.
Five vessels were fined and one man was arrested in the act for the crime of illegal fishing, in Ilha Grande Bay, since it is forbidden to fish shrimp during the closed season for the species, which runs from March 1 to May 31.
According to the PF, some fishermen cut nets from the boats when they noticed the approach of inspection agents.
The action was supported by the Brazilian Institute for the Environment and Renewable Natural Resources (Ibama) and the Chico Mendes Institute for Conservation and Biodiversity (ICMBio).
