First Lieutenant Yoel Pozo Acosta, traffic chief in Pinar del Río, communicated by telephone to Cuban News Agency (ACN) that a passenger truck from the private sector in the province of Artemisa, which covered the Pinar del Río-Habana route, left the road on a straight stretch in good condition and, for this reason, overturned. Details of the incident were still being investigated.
Carlos Adrián Díaz, a resident on the highway to Viñales, told the source that near the Entronque de Herradura the truck took the edge of the road, as it had done several times, and tried to straighten out in the center of the highway but overturned.
Meanwhile, Dr. Orestes Moya Álvarez, director of the Abel Santamaría Cuadrado hospital, stated that once the news was received, they activated the mass reception plan and the institution’s emergency system to care for the wounded.
