MADRID, Spain.- The coordinator of the Cuba Decide Platform, Rosa María Payá, stated that “the only points to deal with the dictatorship are the immediate release of all political prisoners and respect for the Human Rights of Cubans.”
The activist made these statements this Tuesday, after the news agency Reuters will report on the meeting which will take place next Thursday in Washington DC between official delegations from Cuba and the United States to address migration issues.
Through your account TwitterPayá also highlighted the need to demand free elections in Cuba.
However, these points will not be in the talks, lamented Rosa María Payá, who at the beginning of this month asked before the Geneva Summit the expulsion of the Cuban dictatorship from the Human Rights Council.
The only points to deal with the dictatorship are:
-Immediate release of all political prisoners
-Respect for the human rights of Cubans, including free elections
Of course, these ? don’t go into the conversation, they are conditions before sitting down. And the migration crisis is over pic.twitter.com/JkYkqBZbdy– Rosa María Payá A. (@RosaMariaPaya) April 19, 2022
As specified ReutersWashington will presumably advocate for the Havana regime to accept more deportees.
“We have seen a significant increase in irregular Cuban immigrants to the United States, both by land and by sea. (…) Cubans currently occupy the second largest group arriving at the southwestern border of the United States,” a State Department spokesperson told the news agency.
On April 13, it was learned that the Cuban government stopped accepting the deportations of citizens of the Island from the United States since October 2021.
The regime “has not accepted any deportation from the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement Service (ICE)” and has only admitted 20 Cubans who have repatriated voluntarily, he assured the newspaper The New Herald a spokesperson for that entity.
