The government of Luis Lacalle Pou launched a controversial invitation for journalists that generated criticism and questioning from the position and users of social networks. It is a “workshop on the technical contents of the Urgent Consideration Law (LUC)”, which will be given by the deputy secretary of the Presidency, Rodrigo Ferrés.
It will take place on November 19 at 11 am in room 2A and 2B of the annex building of the Executive Tower.
The workshop coincides with the moment when the Electoral Court is about to validate the number of signatures necessary to activate the referendum to repeal the 135 articles of the LUC, of the more than 800,000 collected.
For members of the Pro Referendum Commission, the workshop seeks to align journalists and other communication professionals with the positions of the government, which is obviously defending the LUC.
The Broad Front also viewed the event with suspicion. “Unusual! Presidency gives a ‘workshop’ on the LUC to journalists. Can you believe? Is not too much? Or is it not too obvious? ”Asked Senator Mario Bergara.
“The government summons the media to ‘explain’ to them, in the framework of a workshop, how they should understand and report on a varied set of norms. Norms that have been in force for more than 1 year and that are questioned by a large part of the citizenry. It does not correspond ”, expressed the economist and militant Frente Amplio Gabriel Papa.
Fernando Pereira, candidate for the presidency of the FA, asserted: “Pronouncements of a minister of the Electoral Court (in allusion to the nationalist Ana Lía Piñeyrúa), active participation of the President of the Republic in the campaign and, now, the Presidency of the Republic working with the resources of Uruguayans by inviting communicators to a workshop dictated by Dr. Rodrigo Ferrés for the referendum. Why now and not when the LUC was presented? What is the limit?”.
“All the infrastructure of the Executive Tower at the service of the campaign,” added Senator Alejandro ‘Pacha’ Sánchez.
“It may be legal, but it is immoral in the face of an imminent referendum. They could have done it a year ago if it was because of its technical ‘complexity’, ”said FA deputy, Lucía Etcheverry.
