Control. Personal policial fue dispuesto en los alrededores de los centros penitenciarios de Ambato y Latacunga.

The measure was taken by the inmates in solidarity with the massacre that took place the night between November 12 and 13 at the “Litoral Penitentiary.”

The national service for persons deprived of liberty (SNAI) reported this afternoon that the internal of the Azuay N-1 Center for the Deprivation of Liberty, better known as ‘Prison of Turi’, refused this November 13, 2021 to have breakfast and lunch. The same attitude was taken by the inmates of the Cotopaxi Center for the Deprivation of Liberty (or ‘Latacunga jail’).

According to SNAI personnel, the measure would have been adopted in solidarity with the 68 dead and 25 wounded registered during clashes occurred the night between November 12 and 13, 2021 in the call ‘Litoral Penitentiary’.

Faced with this situation, the director of the ‘Prison of Turi’, Ulises Astudillo, would have summoned the Governor of Azuay, coordinators of pavilions and representatives of the inmates to talk and seek a solution. The same is expected to be done in the ‘Latacunga jail’.

In the latter, in addition to the Ambato social rehabilitation center, security was strengthened in the face of the possibility of repeated events like those that occurred in the ‘Penitentiary’. (LAG)
