The Carnival 2022 parades, at Marquês de Sapucaí, will feature a special scheme for emergency medical care set up by the Municipal Health Department of Rio de Janeiro (SMS-Rio). Between the 20th and 24th and on Saturday of the champions (30th), seven medical posts spread out in strategic points of the Sambadrome will be available to the public and members of the associations in sectors 1, which is the part of the concentration of schools; 2, 7, 8, 11, in addition to 10, which is at Rua Salvador de Sá; and that of dispersion, in Praça da Apoteose. All will work from 19:00 until the end of the parades. On the 24th, for the presentation of the junior schools, the posts will be open from 4 pm to midnight.
According to SMS, the service structure includes 32 beds, eight of which are for advanced support. In all, 71 professionals will be on duty each day. Among them, 26 are doctors, 18 nurses and 27 nursing technicians.
Patients with more severe conditions will be transferred by ambulances with advanced support (mobile ICU) in an action coordinated by the Municipal Regulation Center, to hospitals or UPAs in the network. The scheme has 16 ambulances available on the parade days of the Gold Series schools (Wednesday and Thursday) and the Special Group (Friday and Saturday) and on the following Saturday, when the first six classified in the special group will parade. For the children’s parade on Sunday, ten vehicles will be available.
Calculation
Health care is also guaranteed during the school count on Tuesday (24) at Apotheosis. On that day, the post will work from 2 pm to 8 pm, with a team made up of three doctors, two nurses and three nursing technicians. The structure has two ambulances with advanced support for the transfer of patients with more serious cases.
According to the secretary, among the main causes of revelers who seek care are malaise due to heat or excessive drinking, hypertension, sprains/dislocations, cuts and various traumas.
Secretary Rodrigo Prado said that anyone who needs assistance during Carnival at the Sambadrome can go to the stations installed.
Prado said that in the technical tests carried out by the schools between March 13 and April 10, 129 attendances were recorded, of which 12 had to be transferred to a health unit.
The secretary guaranteed that the scheme has the capacity to meet the demand that arises. “These are open-door pre-hospital posts. We can make up to more than a thousand calls according to the historical series”, he informed.
Prado also highlighted that it is important that people are vaccinated, because proof of vaccination will be required. “All people over the age of 18 must have a booster dose to be able to enter. This has already been tested and done during technical trials. Liesa set up a scheme that all people who participated either working, or parading, or watching had to present proof. We hope that all of this will happen,” she said.
Intendant and Terreirão
At Estrada Intendente Magalhães, in Campinho, north of Rio de Janeiro, there will be a medical service station and four ambulances in the parades on the 20th (Federação dos Blocos), 21 (Assessment Group), 22 (Schools of the Bronze Series), 29 and 30 (Silver Series schools) and on May 1st will be the groups of groups B and C. In Terreirão do Samba, near the Sambódromo, in the central region of the city, there will be two medical posts and four ambulances to attend to whoever goes to the shows that will take place on April 20, 21, 22, 23 and 30.
Oversight
The SMS scheme also has 65 professionals from the Municipal Health Surveillance Institute (Ivisa-Rio), who will carry out actions to monitor compliance with health standards in the premises of the Sambódromo, Terreirão do Samba and in surrounding public areas, including the mandatory presentation of the vaccination passport to enter the places.
The Institute will maintain a permanent operational base in Sector 11.
