He said that according to the underreporting of new cases of the disease, it can be estimated that, for each infected patient diagnosed this week, there were approximately 4.35 unidentified infected patients.
“This means that this week in Colombia there was an underreporting of new cases of approximately 81.3%, such high underreporting is very unfortunate because it greatly affects any type of control of the pandemic in the national territory,” he explained.
He stressed that Europe is experiencing a special situation due to the movement of migrants from Ukraine.
“In terms of the mortality rate, the epicenter of the pandemic is again in Europe, especially in the region of the Baltic countries, which have received most of the population of Ukraine, a country that only had 35% vaccinated. of its population at the beginning of the Russian invasion,” he said.
According to the study, Colombia reported 32 deaths from Covid-19 in the week of March 27 to April 2, 2022, an average of 5 deaths per day.
“Based on official figures, 139,745 people have died in Colombia from covid-19 since the start of the pandemic until April 16, 2022,” he said.
He stressed that according to The Economist magazine, It is estimated that Colombia has had a 30% underreporting of deaths from the pandemic since the onset of the disease.
“This may be due, mainly, to the fact that the health information system of the Ministry of Health it only reports deaths from covid that start symptoms 14 days before their death,” he said.

He pointed out that covid-19 is no longer one of the first causes of death in Colombia.
“The 46 deaths that occurred during the week of April 10 to 16, 2022 they point out that covid-19 was the nineteenth cause of death in the country; it is important to remember that for two consecutive years and for the first two months of 2022, covid-19 was the main cause of death in the country, so occupying the 19th place demonstrates the important progress that the country has made in reducing the impact of the pandemic on public health”, he pointed out.
