This is not the first time that migrant caravans have mobilized in Mexico. On April 1st, it happened with a group of 500 foreigners who advanced about 16 kilometers to the Álvaro Obregón community.
The Mexican government reached an agreement with a group of immigrants of different nationalities, among which a portion of Venezuelans stands out, to grant them a legal status that allows them to remain in the North American country.
Hundreds of migrants had been trapped for months at the border of Tapachula, a region of the state of Chiapas, asking the Mexican government to grant them documents to reside regularly in the country.
The migrants mobilized in a caravan that they called “migrant viacrucis”, made up of around 800 people from Haiti, Venezuela and other countries in Central America and Africa.

The intention of the caravan was to move peacefully to Mexico City to demand regularization. However, they stopped their march under the promise that the Government will normalize their immigration status next Monday.
The migrants traveled eight kilometers to the first immigration control, located in Ejido. They were awaited by buses and vans from the National Migration Institute (INM), with officials willing to talk.
A commission of 10 foreigners represented the caravan and an agreement was reached with the Mexican authorities that the immigrants access the buses to be transferred to the Border Transit Comprehensive Attention Center (Caitf).
In this organization, located in Huixtla, the necessary immigration procedures will be processed so that they are granted the regularization they require to remain in Mexico.
Luis Rey García Villagrán, director of the Center for Human Dignification (CDH), delivered a copy of the lists of migrants to the National Human Rights Commission (CNDH) and the INM so that this Monday they can be assisted with their migratory regularization in the country and can advance to the northern border.

Previously, during January, another group made up of some 500 people mobilized about 20 kilometers with this same objective, forcing the authorities to respond.
