The National Institute of Vocational Technical Training (Infotep) has so far submitted 284 technicians to the Ministry of Labor, to opt for one of the jobs required in Puerto Ricoin order to rebuild the island after the devastation caused by Hurricane Maria in 2017.
Last February the Infotep started a worker validation process technicians in the sectors construction and tourism with the interest that they be taken into account to be sent to the neighboring island in order to supply the labor deficit that that country has.
The process has started in the sector of constructionwhere the techniciansgraduated and/or validated by the Infotepwhich have already been sent to the Ministry of Labor correspond to training in electricity, carpentry, masonry, welding, plumbing and refrigeration.
After the preselection carried out by the Infotepthese are sent to the Employment Division of the Ministry of Labor to continue the procedure, explains the educational institution in a press release.
Once selected, the eligible candidates, the Infotep will be in charge of training and certifying them in occupational health and safety issues in the standard OHSAS 18001, which is the main requirement to work in the United States.
Once the procedure has been exhausted, the Ministry of Labor will send the files of the applicants who are selected to the Embassy of the United States in the Dominican Republic, to proceed to request an H2B work visa.
Of the candidates sent by the Infotep to the Ministry of Labor, 59 belong to the Metropolitan Regional Directorate, 123 to the North Cibao Regional Directorate, 25 to the Eastern Regional Directorate and 77 to the Southern Regional Directorate.
The pre-selection days techniciansto start the validation processes, they will continue to be carried out in the National District, Santiago, Puerto Plata, Higüey, La Romana, San Juan, Barahona, Azua.
