The Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) reported that 172 thousand 668 jobs were created in October, with which there are 20 million 767 thousand 587 formal jobs. That figure means that the affiliates of the institute have exceeded the level of February 2020, that is, that of before the start of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Like every month, the IMSS presented this report. The document released yesterday reports the figures as of October 31, 2021. Until that cut, the IMSS has a historical affiliation of more than 18 million permanent workers. In addition, it is the first time that for the fourth consecutive month more than 100,000 base positions were created.

Of the 20 million 767 thousand 587 registered, 86.9 percent are permanent and 13.1 percent, temporary.

In October there was a monthly increase of 172 thousand 668 jobs, which is equivalent to a monthly rate of 0.8 percent.

It is the first time that for the second consecutive month more than 170 thousand jobs have been created, the IMSS pointed out.

With the above, job creation from January to October 2021 is 993 thousand 855 new positions. In that period, permanent employment increased by 1 million 43 thousand 675 and temporary employment was reduced by 49 thousand 820.

In the last 12 months, an increase of 864 thousand 754 positions was reported, equivalent to an annual rate of 4.3 percent.

The economic sectors with the highest annual growth in jobs are: transportation and communications, with 10.4 percent; extractive, with 8.2 percent, and construction with 6.6 percent. Quintana Roo, Tabasco and Baja California Sur are the entities where there were annual increases of over 12 percent.

As of October 31, the average contribution base salary of affiliated jobs reached 432 pesos. This represents a nominal annual increase of 7.5 percent, the second highest for an October in the last 10 years.

Meanwhile, since January 2019, the base contribution salary has maintained nominal annual records equal to or greater than 6 percent, the IMSS pointed out, adding that 7 million 726 thousand 759 members of the facultative insurance have the institute’s medical services.
