The Civil Police opened an investigation, this Sunday (17), into the looting of a supermarket, in the neighborhood of Inhaúma, north of Rio. The store, owned by Inter, was looted on Saturday night (16) by dozens of people.
“The case was registered this Sunday at the 44th DP (Inhaúma). Representatives of the establishment were heard at the police station and witnesses will be summoned for testimony. The agents requested security camera footage from the site. The investigation is ongoing,” the Civil Police said in a statement.
The Military Police (PM) were called when the market was being looted, but people fled and there were no reports of prisoners.
“On Saturday night, teams from the 3rd BPM (Méier) were called to check a series of looting at a supermarket on Estrada Adhemar Bebiano, in Inhaúma. When police arrived, several people fled the scene. There were no arrests”, reported the PM, also in a note.
Images posted on social media show dozens of people looting the supermarket. Many leave in a hurry, carrying several boxes of products on their shoulders. The looting ended only with the arrival of the police. The supermarket is close to Complexo do Alemão, but there is no information where the looters came from.
