Moquegua: Despite the beginning of the dialogue, community members do not replenish the water in Cuajone

Workers from the different areas of the Cuajone mine met yesterday in an emergency in the worker’s square to agree on the immediate recovery of the drinking water service from the Viña Blanca reservoir, whose valves were closed two months ago by the population of the peasant community of Tumilaca, Coscote, Pocata and Tala, in protest against the mining company Southern Peru.

The workers, who were accompanied by their wives and children, lamented the actions of the central government, which until now has not responded to their claim to restore the drinking water service.

They breach commitment after meeting

“In the meeting last Thursday with a PCM official, it was said that the restoration of the service would be a matter of hours, but two or three days have passed and nothing,” said Luis Zambrano, an Operations worker at the Cuajone mine.

The workers with their families have agreed to march to the Viña Blanca reservoir to open the valves in case the government delays its attention. The community members are stationed in the area and a confrontation is not ruled out.

They would wait until today for the supply

The leader Luis Zambrano indicated that they would wait until today for the service to be restored, otherwise in the following hours you will take forceful measures. They won’t say the exact day or time to prevent law enforcement intervention, but it will be immediate, he said.

We are not going to allow more rocking from the government, which until now has not published the resolution of the conformation of the work table nor intervenes for the reestablishment of the potable water service, he noted.

The population of Cuajone has not had water service since February 28. They replaced it a week, but again they closed it.
