Before the imposition of the Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE) for the political parties to renew their directives, the vice president of the MAS Gerardo García indicated that the political instrument will take until October to do so.
The leader pointed out that at this moment the MAS organizes the regional congresses in the nine departments. “Once we finish that process, we have to convene the national congress.”
complemented that there are departments that do not have registered leaders officially in the Supreme Electoral Tribunal. “According to the new law on political organizations, all leaders must be recognized by the Electoral Body,” he explained,
In addition, he pointed out that so far two congresses have been annulleds, one in Cochabamba, because there was no gender equality in the directory, we are convening a new one. While in the case of Potosí, they only elected two or three people, and the rest remained acephalous to fill in later. The TSE no longer allows us that mechanism.”
He added that in each case members of the Electoral Body are present, sign at the end, and record the entire development. “There is no way we can lie to him. The TSE first asked us for a national congress to legalize our statute, our legal personality was at risk. That is already saved. Now comes this step, to legalize our leaders.”
García admitted that the national board will be elected this year yes or yes. “That is mandatory for us. But we’ll do it when we’re done. Only the directives of Pando, Oruro and Chuquisaca have been completed and are recognized. We are missing six regions: La Paz, Cochabamba, Santa Cruz, Potosí, Tarija and Beni.
But, the MAS takes this process calmly. “If each department convenes until the end of this month, the congresses would be held in the said departments until June, or at the latest in July. Then we will issue the call for the month of October or at the latest in November, depending on whether the directives are recognized by the TSE”.
This long weekend, the president of the MAS, Evo Morales, was in the departments of Chuquisaca and Tarija, and announced that he will make a national tour to encourage the registration of militants to the party and also to make these congresses viable.
The deputy expelled from the MASRolando Cuéllar, asked that the TSE, instead of dealing with his expulsion, which -for him- is not justified because he did not commit any transfuge, urge the national leadership of his party to call a congress to renew the national leadership, which remains unjustified for seven years.
The TSE urged this week all parties with national or local status to call their deliberation instances and renew party directives in compliance with the Political Organizations Law (Law 1096). “To exhort the Political Organizations of national, departmental, regional and municipal scope – whose directors have exceeded the period of their mandate – to compulsorily convene and hold their internal events (assemblies, congresses and others) for the renewal of their directors, under the supervision of the Plurinational Electoral Body”, the mandate.
