An twister What happened on the afternoon of this Friday left damage to homes and state entities in San José de las Lajas, capital of the western Cuban province of Mayabeque, according to official media.
The meteorological phenomenon, classified by specialists as low intensity, took place around 1:40 PM and hit with greater force in an area of 200 meters in the vicinity of an area of the Mayabeque town known as the four corners, according to an office from Radio clock.
Preliminary estimates, cited by the media, report damage to 13 housing roofs and work centers in San José de las Lajas, and breakdowns in electrical and telephone lines. No injured people are reported.
After the tornado, Division General Ramón Pardo Guerra, head of the National Civil Defense General Staff, and the main authorities of Mayabeque went to the affected area, where they quickly began estimating the damage and cleaning, collecting debris and recovery.
The phenomenon, according to specialists, was the result of the current climatic conditions on the Island, which can cause local storms as a result of the heating of the day. Some events of this type have already been reported this year, including a waterspout that affected the east of Havana.
The most destructive tornado in recent years in Cuba took place on January 27, 2019, also in the country’s capital, which left behind a trail of destruction in several Havana municipalities, as well as several deaths and numerous injuries.
