MIAMI, United States.- Two Cubans, including a minor, were rescued by the Beta Group of the National Institute of Migration (INM) of Mexico, after they were trapped in the middle of the current of the Rio Grande when they tried to cross towards USA.

According to a report from MVS NewsDuring the afternoon of this Thursday, the immigration agents of the representative office of Ciudad Acuña, in the State of Coahuila, were notified that a group of people were stranded in the middle of the River.

“At the height of the sector known as Benito Juárez, members of Grupo Beta entered the Rio Bravo when they realized the situation of risk in which migrants were found,” reads the text.

The INM authorities managed to rescue a woman, a Cuban national, and her minor son, who were transferred to the mainland on the Mexican side.

MVS Noticias reported that after a medical check-up they were reported in good health, and were under the protection of INM personnel in Acuña, for notification to the System for the Integral Development of the Family (DIF) in the state, as well as the conducive migratory administrative procedure.

The Cuban migration crisis has set off alarms for a few months both in the United States, the country of destination, and in Mexico and some Central American nations, through which the islanders are crossing.

Just a few days ago it became known that in less than 24 hours some 300 Cubans crossed the Rio Grande, putting their lives in danger to reach US territory.

According to a report in The Washington Post, over 32,000 Cubans arrived at the US southern border in March 2022.

The more than 32,000 migrants from the island who entered US territory through the border with Mexico during March represent almost double those who did so in February and bring the number of Cubans who have arrived in the US to almost 80,000. by that route from October 2021.
