The spokesman for the Somos Perú caucus, Wilmar Elera, indicated that the election of the next Ombudsman would materialize within a period of 30 to 45 days, since the mandate of the current head of the Ombudsman’s Office, Walter Gutierrezis expired since September 2021.
Just last March 30, the special commission was installed that will be in charge of choosing the head of this entity. This working group is headed by the president of Congress, Maria del Carmen Alva, and spokespersons for the different parliamentary benches.
The dialogue with Andina, the legislator Wilmar Elera indicated that the next session of this commission would have to be held from April 25after the week of parliamentary representation.

In this sense, he maintained that the task of choosing the new Ombudsman should not go beyond the current legislature and should be specified within a maximum period of 45 days. In addition, he said that the candidates will be defined by invitation, just as the directors of the Central Reserve Bank (BCR) are chosen.
“Each bench brings a proposal, the curriculum is submitted to a complete review of each of the members and a vote is made for or against it.”, said the congressman from Somos Perú.
The spokesman for the caucus of Democratic Peru, Carlos Zeballosmaintained that in the next session of the special commission the regulations of the election process would have to be defined so that candidates can begin to be presented, with the purpose that in 30 days you can have the new head of the Ombudsman.
“The schedule has to be quick, because the Ombudsman is only there until April 20 and he would have to leave the deputy in charge.”, he declared for the same medium.
