With a simultaneous 146 boards to be held this Sunday at the Hotel Nacional de Cuba, the first activities of the 55th edition of the Capablanca international tournament will begin In Memoriam.
Next Monday the tournament will be officially opened with the draw for the numbers for the Elite and Premier groups, through the Closed system until April 28.
The event will have the Senior sections (for those over 60 years of age), Open (for more than 100 players) and Looking for a Capablanca (only for those under 16 years of age).
Rivero also said that the theoretical program will be maintained with a marked emphasis on educational chess issues. This segment will feature the presence of the Spanish journalist Leonxto García, adviser to the International Federation.
In total, more than 280 players from 24 countries will participate. For the members of the Cuban preselection it will be of singular importance, since the results will be considered when forming the male and female teams that will participate in the summer at the Chennai Olympiad, India.
