The Bolivarian Libertador Municipal Council approved the new symbols of the capital, with a strong tribute to the indigenous peoples and patriotic sentiment.
“I have signed the promulgation of the Ordinance that will regulate the new symbols of Caracas, approved this April 13 in a special session by the Bolivarian Liberator Municipal Council,” said the mayor of Caracas, Carmen Meléndez.
The decision was approved by a majority in an extraordinary session, with two votes saved by councilors José Caribas (MUD) and Daniela Rodríguez (Alliance del Pencil).
The mayor of Caracas presented the Coat of Arms of Caracas, which has the images of the Liberator Simón Bolívar, an Afro-descendant woman and a representative of the indigenous community.
All these elements are found on the Waraira Repano, better known as El Ávila.
Similarly, detailed the mayor of Caracas, the sword of the Liberator, a spear and in the center the Red Star, symbol of the Bolivarian Revolution, can be seen.
Meléndez also highlighted the new Flag of Caracas, in which the Waraira Repano is shown “as well as the White Star that symbolizes light, rebellion and brightness, together with the Red color that represents the passion and blood of the patriots, in addition to the Green, White and Blue, always present in the landscapes of Caracas».
For her part, the undersecretary of the Municipal Council of Caracas, Erika Bernal, pointed out that the winning proposals are from Omar Cruz for the Shield; María Jiménez and Víctor Rodríguez for the Flag; and Noel Márquez together with Manuel Barrios, authors of the lyrics and music, respectively, of “Caracas Vencerá” the new anthem of the capital city.
