Former Colombian soccer player Freddy Rincón died last night (13), at the age of 55, at the Hospital Clínica Imbanaco, where he was hospitalized to treat a traumatic brain injury. He could not resist the injuries caused by an accident that occurred on the 11th, when the car in which he was being transported was hit, at an intersection, by a bus in the Colombian city of Cali. Rincón is survived by two children: Sebástian Rincón and Freddy Stiven.
The player, who played in midfield as a defensive midfielder, played in three world cups (1990, 1994 and 1998) for the Colombian national team. Born in Buenaventura, on August 14, 1966, Rincón began his football career in the team named after the city where he was born.
He also played for Deportes Tolima, Independiente Santa Fé and América de Cali in Colombia. In Europe, he played for Napoli (Italy) and Real Madrid (Spain). And in Brazil he played for Palmeiras, Santos, Cruzeiro and Corinthians, the team for which he was world champion in 2000.
