Vice President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner described Wednesday as “illegal” the granting of the stand-by loan of around 44 billion dollars to Argentina by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and considered that “it is strange that no judge has noticed any irregularity or illegality“, when questioning the actions of the Judiciary at the opening of the plenary session of EuroLat 2022 in the city of Buenos Aires.
At an opening meeting of the EuroLat held in the auditorium known as the “Blue Whale” of the Kirchner Cultural Center (CCK), Fernández de Kirchner gave a speech in which questioned the judicial powers of Latin American countrieswhom he considered instruments of persecution of the progressive governments of the region.
As an example, recalled his prosecution in the cause of future dollar and contrasted it with the judicial inactivity in the face of the taking of debt with the IMF by officials of the previous government involved in the loan received in 2018.
“We must address an issue that is perhaps more Latin American, such as the Judicial Party as an instrument against the governments and the national and popular parties. There is a very large deficit in our region in this regard,” warned the vice president about the functioning of judges and prosecutors.
In that passage of her speech, the head of the Senate recalled: “Today is April 13 and it is a very special day too, because six years ago, four months after the end of my second term, we were summoned by the current governor of Buenos Aires (by Axel Kicillof), who had been my Minister of Economy, other officials of the Central Bank and who speaks to them, by a judge”.
Without naming him, he thus alluded to the deceased Claudio Bonadio and, when some supporters in the room started a whistle, he quickly silenced them with a wave of his hand.
He then referred to the cause of future dollarfor which all the defendants were dismissed.
“The measure of the future dollar was of a political nature, a political decision that could never have been prosecuted. But in addition to being prosecuted, it was found that it had not caused any damage, on the contrary“, he pointed out.
For this reason, he continued, “it is striking that by a regulated, transparent and legal political decision, has been processedsince I was prosecuted for six years for that cause, and after our country was indebted by the largest loan in living memory, and illegal in the form of granting it by the International Monetary Fund, no judge has noticed any irregularity or illegality. Queer“, he finished.
In another section of the message, on the compliance with international lawcalled for the rules of multilateral organizations to be applied and respected by all countries, “without distinctions”.
“Of the five countries with permanent seats and the right to veto in the UN Security Council (China, Russia, France, Great Britain and the United States), all of them, at some point, have not respected the rules of international law“, he added at that point.
And he remarked: “We have denounced the double standard of powers who believe themselves above others and They do not respect. In fact, the invasion of the Falkland Islands is a clear example of how they handle international law according to your convenience“.
So, he focused on the role of the NATO (the North Atlantic Treaty Organization), of growing influence in the war in Ukraine, to denounce “that double standard” on Argentine soil itself.
“What can I say to the former NATO combatants, if they (NATO) were the ones who put us a base 14 thousand kilometers from Argentine soil saying that the Malvinas are not ours?”, he wondered aloud and triggered applause.
Addressing this debate, he demanded that the “norms of international law be respected by all countries, absolutely all, without distinction.”

Lastly, he quoted former radical president Hipolito Yrigoyen to ask that Eurolat meetings do not remain deliberative and derive in concrete initiatives.
“Let’s continue debating these issues and then, as a leader who was not from my party said (for Yrigoyen), we can move on to conducive effectivities“, he exhorted.
