The deputy and president of the Patria Querida Party, Sebastián Villarejo, in the framework of his presidential campaign, spent the weekend in Alto Paraná and spoke with young students of the current challenge of democracy and urged youth to participate more in politics to generate proposals and real changes.
He stated that it is time to open our eyes, because “we must defend democracy with all our might, because there are outdated politicians who do not believe in democracy.”
He pointed out that the current dictatorship disguises itself as democracy, and occurs when a person assumes and manages to put all the institutions in his charge. “It is a supposed democracy, but someone who runs the Prosecutor’s Office persecutes only a few, does not persecute his friends, or makes the Judiciary benefit the powerful and make long and endless trials against others in a total sense of injustice,” commented.
He stressed that the dictatorship is disguised by the cooptation of state institutions.
“The current challenge of democracy and globalization is the development of peoples. An integral and truly linear development of and for all. This is going to imply an effort from all of us and that we have the courage to make the right decisions and start applying because we seek to live better, ”he explained.
He specified that “as citizens we have to build an active citizenship. The normal scenario is indifference. We are indifferent to what we do not know.
He regretted that young people in Paraguay are indifferent towards the public. “Statistically, there is a serious problem of indifference towards the public. It does not interest the philosophical reflection that anyone has done. Not going to vote is a shame. You have to go vote because the National Constitution says you have to vote. That is democracy,” she asserted.
He commented that he is a graduate of the National University, but that nothing is free because the Paraguayan people paid for his studies and “if there are some corrupt bastards who destroy our country, they have to ask us to control the votes and that we want to participate in the elections, that Let’s find good people to support him. To change Paraguay it is not enough to talk about politics”.
“We have a country that we must improve, a situation that is not going to be easy. You have to feel something about things that are wrong, we have to be outraged and we have to do something for Paraguay. Reality has to question us. If you are outraged you have to encourage yourself to protest and say this is wrong and not correct. The Paraguayan challenge, to go from the protest to the proposal. That is the way,” she expressed.
“It makes me angry when there is a lack of oxygen, when there are no beds, when a family member dies, not only because they were not treated in time. It is angry when we see that children do not learn because the education system is deficient. For dozens of years they screwed us and did not allow a good health and education system to exist”, he referred.
