The governor of the state of Táchira, Freddy Bernal, assured this Wednesday that the electrical crisis in the Andean entity is due to “meteorological factors” and not to a lack of investment and maintenance.
According to information published by the newspaper The nationthe regional president is totally convinced that the failures of the service and the crisis that it represents -exacerbated in recent weeks- is due to the fact that it has not rained enough in Táchira.
“Despite rainfall in the southern part of Táchira state, to fill the reservoir again, the rains must continue for approximately one continuous month and thus increase the water load and maintain its levels,” he replied.
Likewise, he pointed out that at least a month of rain is necessary to fill the Uribante-Caparo reservoir and “in this way increase the load of water and maintain its levels.”

“Like any citizen, I also get upset about power cuts, because they affect the quality of life, communications, they affect the preservation of food; Of course, I do not point out who can be bothered, because I go through that inconvenience, but, unfortunately, it is beyond our capacity, ”he told the press.
Bernal reiterated that it is “a problem of a meteorological nature; Let’s hope that in the future we can see investments for alternative electrical mechanisms and thus not depend exclusively on hydroelectric power.”
Lack of maintenance
On the other hand, the tachirense engineer Arnoldo Uribe warned this Wednesday about a possible general blackout in Táchira “when we least expect it, due to the existing problems in the dam.”
The expert pointed out that the current blackouts are due to a lack of maintenance and attention to problems that could be solved in time.
“As it says, the water levels should not fall below the level technically considered the minimum. Those levels of water that exist now cannot be allowed. But the reduction of water is not a problem of nature, but of control and technical operation”, he expressed.
