About five million Paraguayans will be eligible to vote in the 2022-2023 general elections and elect their next authorities. The Electoral Justice carried out the official act of calling the national elections, with the presence of the President of the Republic, Mario Abdo Benítez.
“From now on, the rules of the game are clearly established, with an Electoral Schedule that must be respected punctiliously and rigorously,” said Minister Jaime Bestard, adding that absolute respect for the rules established by the Electoral Schedule is one of the keys. the success of any electoral process.
“We know of cases of countries where there was a delay in schedules, there were situations that forced certain circumstances to change, and those processes went directly to failure. Therefore, this is highly relevant and I think you fully understand it”, he stated, referring to those present.
In this regard, he recalled that the internal party elections will take place on December 18, 2022, while the national elections will take place on April 30, 2023.
For the next national elections, about five million Paraguayans will exercise their right to vote and will be able to elect the next president and vice president of the Republic, as well as senators, deputies, governors and members of the Departmental Boards.
“The significance of the act lies in the fact that from now on the rules of the game are clearly established, in addition to an electoral schedule that must be meticulously and rigorously respected,” he said while noting that respect for these “rules” is the key the success of any electoral process.
Similarly, he referred to the challenges that unblocking the lists and their applicability conditions brought with it. For this purpose, the use of technology had to be resorted to, specifically voting machines, whose reliability was guaranteed during the municipal elections. “Citizens tell us that they like the system and that they don’t want to go back,” he said.
Another of the institution’s challenges is related to political financing and in that sense, he said that the information regarding the financial movement of parties and candidates is by far “the best database that exists in Paraguay and will keep getting better.”
Bestard ratified the institutional responsibility of transmitting confidence, transparency and speed in the electoral results. “Our commitment to the people is becoming stronger and the Electoral Justice has a human team fully prepared and committed to this commitment,” she finally said.

For its part, the Partisan Electoral Tribunal chaired by Santiago Brizuela released Resolution number 180 through which it ratifies the call for internal presidential elections and elections for party authorities, for Sunday, December 18 of this year, as ordered the TSJE.
The TEP resolution says that internal party elections are called to be held on Sunday, December 18, 2022 to elect the candidates who will represent the ANR-Colorado Party- in the national and departmental elections on April 30, 2023, as well as in the different party positions throughout the national territory, of the Argentine Republic, of the USA and in the kingdom of Spain and the respective seats are established.
Among the candidacies to be elected in the Colorado presidential election in December, it can be highlighted that the members of the Colorado Party will have to elect the presidential duo that will represent the ANR in April of next year. Also in the different districts, with the exception of Asunción, it will be necessary to elect a candidate for governor, candidates for departmental deputies and candidates for departmental boards, in addition to electing candidates for Colorado senators.
For the Chamber of Deputies, the Colorado Party must have 80 candidates for titular deputies and 80 candidates for alternate deputies, for the Senate it must have 45 titular senators, for departmental boards the ANR must have 257 candidates for titular members and 257 candidates for alternate members in all departments.

And for party positions, a President of the Governing Board, members of the Governing Board at the national level and members of the Governing Board at the departmental level or abroad are elected. Likewise, in December, the ANR will have to elect new conventional partisans, in the different sectionals the President of the Sectionals and members of the sectionals are elected in 389 sectionals of the country and abroad. Only for titular members of sectionals, 2,251 titular members will be elected and the same number of substitutes for members of sectionals.
