The PT National Directorate approved today (13) the nomination of former São Paulo governor Geraldo Alckmin (PSB) for the vice-presidential seat with former president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. The alliance for the October presidential election contest was announced last week, but needed to be formally analyzed by the party directorate.
Despite the approval, the parties must make the pre-candidacy of the ticket official only in May.
At the same meeting, the PT also approved the federation with the PCdoB and the PV. The decision was taken last month by the subtitles, but it also needed a formal decision from the National Directory.
The law that created the party federations was passed in August last year in Congress. With the rule, the parties that unite in a federation, before the elections, must remain together for at least four years, term of office, having joint statute and consistent behavior of its bench.
In general, the measure is used by small parties that seek to escape the barrier clauses and use the federation model before eventual merger or definitive incorporation.
In 2006, Lula and Alckmin contested the second round of the presidential election and the former president was re-elected for a second term.
