Truck drivers rule out demonstrations during Holy Week

Ángel Zaracho, president of the Federation of Truckers of Paraguay, pointed out that they have mixed feelings after the last extraordinary sessions held in Congress.

On the one hand, the intention of a new loan of US$ 100 million to subsidize private fuel emblems in the face of the international rise in the price of barrels of oil was rejected. However, some measures in favor of Petropar, which allowed the purchase and sale of the product at a lower cost, were also rescinded.

“We did not know that the parliamentarians were going to repeal the subsidies that Petropar initially received. This means that the congressmen will recover their fuel vouchers and that the state oil company will have to resort again to intermediaries to purchase the product. With this, they will become more expensive again”, he expressed for 730 AM.

It should be remembered that Law 6,900/2022 established that Petropar make direct purchases without resorting to tenders to sell the fuel at a lower cost.

“Tomorrow, Wednesday, we are going to meet and there we are going to decide what measures we are going to take. We are all upset, but we are not going to protest on Holy Thursday. If we demonstrate, it will be next week,” he said.
