Motorcycle production up 37% in the first quarter

Abraciclo estimates production of 1.29 million motorcycles this year

Motorcycle production at the Manaus Industrial Pole grew by 37.8% in the first quarter of this year compared to the same period in 2021. From January to March, 327,100 two-wheel vehicles were manufactured, according to balance sheet released today (12) by the Brazilian Association of Motorcycle, Bicycle and Similar Manufacturers (Abraciclo).Motorcycle production up 37% in the first quarter

In March, motorcycle production exceeded by 8.4% the results of the same month of 2021, with the manufacture of 136,500 units. For the president of Abraciclo, Marcos Fermanian, the rise at the beginning of the year compensates for the losses faced during the covid-19 pandemic. “We managed to recover some of what we lost in the previous months”, he emphasized during the presentation of the data.

Despite the improvement, Fermanian said that the motorcycle industry still seeks to resume the levels of 2011, when more than 2 million units were manufactured per year. “We are still a long way from our target period. The perspective is that gradually we will continue to advance and reach the level of 2 million again”, he said.

According to the president of Abraciclo, the industry is still affected by the logistical problems caused by the pandemic. However, he believes that this will not be an obstacle to the expansion of the motorcycle sector this year. “Each brand has been dealing with small obstacles on a day-to-day basis. In general, our industry has been able to overcome these difficulties, in general terms we are making good progress this year”, he evaluated.

sales and exports

Sales of new motorcycles grew 33.7% in the first quarter of the year compared to the period from January to March 2021, with the registration of 274.6 thousand units.

Exports fell by 19.6% in the first three months of the year, with the sale of 10,500 units abroad.

Bicycles

Bicycle production increased by 7.1% in the first quarter of 2022 compared to the same period last year, which represents the production of 183,000 units.

According to the vice president of bicycles at Abraciclo, Cyro Gazola, the sector still faces problems in the supply of parts and components caused by the pandemic. However, the perspective is that it will be possible to achieve a production 17% higher than that of 2021.
