In the middle of a mess between brothers, the mayor of La Paz, Iván Arias, affirmed this Friday that the municipal government will act as a mediator so that the feast of the Lord Jesus of Great Power takes place on June 11, and in that way prevent “personal appetites from destroying” the declaration of this festival in La Paz as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
“We as the Mayor’s Office of La Paz are not going to add fuel to the fire and we are going to do everything possible so that things are fixed and we ensure the common good, before the particular good,” the mayor told the Municipal News Agency .
The position arises from the alleged risk of a supposed suspension of the entry of the festival of the Holy Trinity of the Lord of Great Power due to a legal conflict between some participating organizations.
This week, the Señor de Mayo Heavy Transport Fraternity threatened to ask the court to suspend Gran Poder’s entry into this management, if a legal dispute is not resolved.
The president of the Association of Folkloric Ensembles of Great Power, Joaquín Quispe, is accused of not complying with the resolution of a constitutional protection, in which it is established that the carriers must organize the festival this year. For this reason, the fraternity filed a complaint against him.
Faced with the conflict, Arias lamented that “personal appetites” put the main festival and heritage of the city of La Paz at risk, and urged the brothers to “agree” so that the activity takes place, as planned, on the 11th. of June.

“We are going to act as mediators between the parties because this is a heritage of La Paz. It cannot be that personal appetites destroy a nomination that has been difficult to win with many demonstrations,” Arias assured.
Having the quality of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, the Great Power brings several benefits to the municipality of La Paz, especially the reactivation of the economy, said Arias.
“That it is heritage, they do not know what it means. That opens many doors for us, attracts tourists. It is the most powerful orange economy that we have in La Paz,” said the mayor of La Paz.
In December 2019, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (Unesco) declared the festival of the Holy Trinity of the Lord of Great Power as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
After that declaration, this year will be the first time that the title is exhibited at the entrance, because in 2019 and 2022 the festival was suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic.
