During the tourism week, hunting is an activity that grows and becomes more relevant. For the Uruguayan it is a typical activity to develop in this period.
As reported by the Ministry of Environment, there are currently species that can be hunted freely. Among these are: the wild boar, the parrot and the domestic pigeon.
Among the species that hunting is not allowed and that, however, in our country it is customary to do so, are capybaras, mulitas, foxes and rheas, among other animals that are protected by law. At the same time, Environment, reminds that illegal hunting can affect and collaborate with the local extinction of species.
It is also noted that even with the corresponding permit, it is prohibited to hunt at night, from vehicles, on public roads, in private fields without the permission of the owner, or with weapons within a radius of 3 km from population centers or rural schools.
Fauna powers are currently exercised by the National Directorate of Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (Dinabise) of the Ministry of Environment (MA).
Dinabise carries out the coordination of the inspection actions regarding fauna, together with the National Police. Work as a reference headquarters for consultations on the matter, reception of seizures and destination of live animals.
Fines for not complying with fauna regulations range from 10 to 2,000 units, adjustable depending on the type of species, number of specimens, form of hunting, and location.
