At the close of the calculations of the revocation of the mandate, the National Electoral Institute (INE) reported a participation of 16 million 502 thousand 636 citizens, that is, there was an influx to the polls of 17.77 percent of the nominal list .
According to official figures, the result showed that 15 million 159 thousand 323 voters voted for the continuity of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (91.86 percent), one million 63 thousand 209 opted for his removal (6.44 percent) and 280 thousand 56 annulled their vote (1.69 percent).
In the disaggregation of the results there are substantial differences in terms of participation levels, with particular emphasis on the southeast and entities with greater poverty and rural regions.
Originally from Tabasco, the President summoned the largest number of voters in his entity, where participation reached 35.94 percent, this is double the national average, although in some municipalities it had even higher percentages: 44.74 in the land of the president, Macuspana , and 43.43 in Cárdenas.
The southeast was the region where people attended in greater numbers than in other parts of the country: in Chiapas, 32.13 percent attended; in Campeche, 27.18, and in Veracruz, 26.88 percent. Guerrero was another state with significant influx, with 24.41.
In contrast, the states under opposition government presented the highest abstentionism and vote for this consultation. Jalisco and Nuevo León (with governments of Movimiento Ciudadano) reported shares of 9.06 and 10.7 percent, respectively. Likewise, in Aguascalientes, Guanajuato and Durango (with PAN governments) voters did not turn out either: 9.02, 9.42 and 10.8 percent, respectively.
Regardless of the influx, the southeast was also the one that gave the most support to López Obrador, especially his land, where 97.27 percent of the 114,107 votes that were registered were in his favor and only 1.52 percent for revoking him (1,121 votes).
Without the dimensions of Tabasco, but other entities in the region ratified their support for the president: Chiapas, with 94.34 percent; Campeche, with 95.02; Quintana Roo, 94.92, and Oaxaca, 94.73 percent. Guerrero also expressed his support above the average, with 95.52 percent, the second highest in the country, only behind Tabasco.
On the contrary, in the same way as attendance, states with opposing governments had higher levels of rejection of the president, to which Mexico City was added, with percentages similar to Aguascalientes and Guanajuato.
Nuevo León was the entity with the highest proportion of votes for revocation, as it reached 15.48 percent (2.5 times the national average), followed by Jalisco, with 11.28 percent, and Aguascalientes, with 10.86.
Among the states administered by Morena, Mexico City stood out as the entity where the percentage of votes to remove López Obrador was highest, with 10.86. Historically PAN, in the Benito Juárez mayor’s office the greatest rejection was registered, with 17.34 percent for the revocation. They were followed by: Venustiano Carranza, with 13.93 percent, and Miguel Hidalgo, with 13.48 percent.
