a few days after Holy Week Peruvians are already preparing to take advantage of the long holiday and travel to the different tourist destinations that our country offers. Thus, the most visited places are, generally, those closest to the big cities, such as Ica, the central jungle, Nazca, the small north and some valleys in the department of Lima, said Juan Stoessel, general director of the Peruvian Hotel Chain Casa Andina Hotels.
For its part, Carlos Canales, president of the National Chamber of Tourism (Canatur)noted that the most demanded destinations would be Tarma, Cajamarca, AyacuchoArequipa and Cusco to a lesser extent.
He also stated that the accommodation reservations for this long holiday were already at 90% in Ayacucho, Tarma and Ica.

UNCERTAINTY
Stoessel pointed out that this date is very important for the sector and they estimated that it would be the best in recent years; however, they have seen many of their reservations canceled due to the high uncertainty regarding what may happen due to the situation that the country has experienced in recent weeks.
“There are many cancellation calls and others waiting to see what happens since the last Tuesday when the curfew was decreed, things have changed”he pointed.
About this, Canales said that Ayacucho had approximately 34 thousand reserves which was reduced to 20 thousand por the issue of blocking the roads due to the strike of carriers.
“With the declaration of the state of emergency of the National Road Network, recently regulated by the government and that will have the support of the Armed Forces, I think that the reserves can be recovered a little”, Canals said.
FOREIGN TOURISTS
Although, as Canales assures, very few foreigners come to Peru during the Holy Week holiday, Stoessel assured that for a few weeks there has been an increase, although it is still very far from the pre-pandemic period.
“There is a lot of movement of tourists from the United States and countries in the region, however they have begun to cancel between 10% and 15% of the fresh reservations for these weeksStoessel said.
Canales confirmed the phenomenon and assured that the cancellations add up to 25 thousand for the next months of May, June and July.
PROCESSION
In destinations like Arequipa the traditional procession for these dates has been cancelled; however, this would not be a reason for your tourism to be affected.
“If the holiday does not take place, people still travel and generate content, but the ideal is that the mayors carry out activities that make the city more attractive to tourism,” said Canales.
Data
- The average ticket increased between 40% and 50% more than on regular dates, being almost from S/200 to S/300 per day per person, said Canales.
- Stoessel affirmed that the disturbances of the last week and the curfew for one day in Lima harmed the sector, causing the cancellation of reservations.
