President Andrés Manuel López Obrador spoke out against Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and reiterated his conviction to fight for a peaceful solution to that conflict and for humanitarian aid to support the victims of that absurd war

In a video he recorded for the campaign #StandUpforUkraineat the invitation of the Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau, the President highlighted: Of course, we do not accept Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, because we have suffered from invasions
.
He specified that throughout its history, Mexico was invaded by the Spanish, the French, twice by the United States and on one occasion they took more than half of our territory from us
. Thus, we condemn the invasions. We are not in favor of any war, we want peace
.
He added that in this unfortunate war between Russia and the Ukraine, politics failed. The policy that was invented to avoid war; it could have been avoided, but we still have time to call for peace
.
Posted yesterday on social media #StandUpforUkraine”, in the message, which he recorded from his office in the National Palace, López Obrador specified that he participated in that campaign at the invitation of his friend Justin Trudeau, but also out of his own conviction, because we are in favor of a peaceful solution to the conflict

The President of the Republic stressed: We have to achieve peace so that the people of Ukraine or the people of Russia, or any people in the world, do not continue to suffer, suffering from this irrationality, because wars are disastrous, they should not be desired in any case
.
