The increase in the flow of the Paraná River in the affected basin of Yacyretá allowed Paraguayan vessels with 42,000 tons of products to be locked between this Saturday and Friday.
Yesterday, the Nora E, coming from Puerto Encarnación, with 12 loaded barges (20,000 tons of soybeans), 7-foot draft, was locked to km 1,242, Paraná River-confluence. Today the Mbiguá is sluicing, and with it a total of 42,000 tons of Paraguayan production is destined for the marketing markets.
The results of the meteorological forecast models generated by the great world climate prediction centers for the April-May-June 2022 quarter, foresee the persistence of the “La Niña” phenomenon, indicating a greater probability of below-normal precipitation in the basin upper Paraná River.
With this, it is concluded that from the quarterly scale it is expected that the month of April will be rainy and the remaining May-June will have a greater probability of being below normal.
Given the agreed climatic perspective for the mentioned quarter, average monthly inflows are expected for April between 8,000 and 11,000 m3/s, for May and June, between 7,000 and 10,000 m3/s.
Currently, the accumulation reservoirs located in the upper basin of the Paraná River, upstream of the Yacyretá Hydroelectric Power Plant, have a weighted storage of around 66%, doubling the values recorded at the beginning of the year 2022.
Normally, the recharge of the reservoir system occurs during the “wet” period (summer), to later discharge it during the “dry period” (winter).
