Observatory advises to protect yourself from COVID-19 at Easter

The COVID-19 Citizen Observatory (OC) group recommended that Nicaraguan citizens continue to implement preventive measures to prevent the spread of the coronavirus during Holy Week.

“During these Easter holidays we remind the population to continue taking COVID-19 prevention measures,” says the group of independent doctors.

The report of the last two weeks explains that several countries in the world have implemented a “relaxation of measures” to prevent the massive contagion of the pandemic, so “it is possible that in Nicaragua the population begins to trust itself.”

“In our country we have not reached the recommended immunization levels to rely on reducing protection measures. It is unfortunate that we do not know the true behavior of the disease », he recalled.

The OC criticized the lack of transparency about the number of tests carried out and the percentage of positivity. Likewise, he questioned that the population does not have access to diagnostic tests, which is why, given the lack of knowledge of the real situation of the pandemic in the country, it is better to continue protecting oneself.

The numbers

From March 24 to April 6, 2022, 31 new suspected cases of COVID-19 were reported. Managua continues to lead the list of the departments with the most infections, adding 10,716 since the appearance of the first positive case in Nicaragua in March 2020; Madriz follows with 4 thousand 55, Matagalpa 3 thousand 651; Leon 2 thousand 145; Estelí 1 thousand 871; Jinotega 1 thousand 623; Masaya 1 thousand 377 and Robas with 1 thousand 143.

“As of April 6, 2022, a cumulative of 32,174 suspected cases is reported, verified by the Citizen Observatory… 5,994 deaths from pneumonia or suspected COVID-19 have been reported and verified by the Citizen Observatory. Between March 24 and April 6, 2022, 3 new deaths were reported due to suspected COVID-19,” the report details.

The expert group denounced that reports of massive activities, both public and private, have resumed, where prevention measures are not followed. “The celebrations of the election of the Queen of Summer 2022 at the municipal, departmental and national levels were one of the most reported in this period, but also the private patron saint festivities and student parties,” he highlights.
