The sugarcane producers determined a 24-hour blockade starting tomorrow in Montero, Santa Cruz, to demand the annulment of Supreme Decree 4680, which restricts sugar exports.

The decision was announced by the Union of Sugarcane Producers Unagro and the pressure measure will be exercised in coordination with the National Commission of Sugarcane Producers of Bolivia (Concabol).

Apart from demanding the annulment of decree 4680, the cane growers ask the Government to be included in the state credit program “SI Bolivia”, for import substitution, to promote a process of economic reactivation. The blocking point will be the Friendship Bridge in the city of Montero.

On March 9, the Government ordered the issuance of supply certificates to regulate the export of corn, sorghum and sugar, and guarantee production and supply at a fair price in the domestic market.

Decree 4680 established that the Ministry of Productive Development, based on technical reports verifying internal supply at a fair price presented by the Ministry of Rural Development, be the one to issue the certificate of internal supply and fair price.

The cane growers assure that the domestic market is supplied and there are surpluses.
