The Argentine team finished in eighth place in the World Pizza Championship, the most important contest in the world in the field that takes place annually in Parma, Italy, and once again demonstrated that it is among the best in the world, reported this Saturday the Association of Pizzerias and Houses of Empanadas (Apyce).
In this 29th edition, Argentina participated in the “World Pizza Team” category where it competed with 22 teams from different countries.
The top seven places went to Italian teams, while the Argentine team came in eighth place, making “Argentine” pizza second in importance worldwide among countries.
“Each team that is presented in this category is made up of six professional pizza masters who add points for their country and the Argentine team was only preceded by the local (“Italian”)”they explained from the association.
“This important achievement was due to the selection presented by Apyce, which chooses professionals who train, study constantly and master the technique, and who also compete in the annual federal championships organized by the entity, and who with an outstanding career are considered suitable to represent our flag in this championship that brought together 762 professionals from around the world”, they added.
Through a statement, Apyce noted: “The objective of the Argentine team was to overcome the positions obtained in previous years and had the opportunity to prove it once again in this edition with excellent scores”.
BEST CLASSIFIED BY ARGENTINA
The Argentine who was awarded as “Best classified by Argentina” was Mauro Davila Gasco, a teacher who obtained the best score of all the Argentines who participated in the World Cup. In addition, he obtained a 4th place in the world in “Pizza in Pala” out of 117 participants.
PIZZA IN TEGLIA
the salteño Hugo Bazan got the 4th place in the “Pizza In Teglia” category over 89 participants. In this way, he surpassed the achievement obtained in the last edition (2019) where he had achieved a 9th place.
PIZZA IN SHOVEL
Argentina had the opportunity to shine in category “Pizza in Pala” with a 10th place what did the teacher get Miguel Villalbafor which he dominated this category, achieving two positions among the top 10 in the world.
CLASSIC PIZZA
In “Classic Pizza”, the most attended of the contest, surpassing 400 competitors, Argentina obtained positions in the positions 25, 38 and 54achieving an outstanding performance for the first time in the history of the world pizza.
GLUTEN-FREE PIZZA
In the category “Gluten free pizza” with extreme rigor in the handling and origin of food, Argentina obtained 12th place (with Federico Dominguez Fontan of Bariloche) and the 18th, in charge of the team leader Javier Labakeover 80 participants.
NEAPOLITAN
In the category “Neapolitan” (STG – Traditional Specialty Guaranteed) where pizza is discussed declared by UNESCO as intangible heritage of humanityproperty and flagship of the Italians, Argentina obtained a 14th place (Diego Davila Gasco) over 74 qualified and certified participants for the category.
In this regard, Lorena Fernández (President of the entity) stated: “We congratulate all the pizza masters who made up our selection for the excellent positions obtained, professionalism, effort and human quality”.
