The streets of Santa Cruz were taken over this Tuesday by an inter-institutional march demanding transparent information on the 2022 Population and Housing Census scheduled for November. Civic members of that region pointed out that there is still no critical path of the process and affirmed that the Government would have the intention of “delaying it”.
“Cruceña institutions, last year, in March, all of us met with the university, the neighborhood councils, we worked on a census project and we know that we do not have the critical route and that this Government is making our partridge drunk, to have us back . The demand for the census is necessary, they want to delay it so that we enter an election of magistrates with an electoral roll that is still flawed,” said civic leader Rómulo Calvo.
Hours before, the Minister of Public Works, Édgar Montaño, and the Deputy Minister of Autonomies, Álvaro Ríos, agreed that the mobilizations have a political purpose.

The march began in the Plaza del Estudiante and ended with a rally in the Plaza 24 de Septiembre. Students and teachers from the Gabriel René Moreno Autonomous University (Uagrm), in addition to health workers, civic and authorities, including the Governor of Santa Cruz Fernando Camacho, participated in the mobilization.
Regarding the protest, the rector of the Uagrm, Vicente Cuéllar, pointed out that the National Institute of Statistics (INE), which must carry out the census, is closed to providing information.
“Until now, the INE has not provided the requested information in writing, now there is no such information, that is why we need to take to the streets to make it known that this request must be answered. We are still in an emergency because there was no response and the INE has closed its doors to us,” Cuéllar said.

During the rally, Calvo remarked: “It is up to us to demand a transparent participatory census, all of the Santa Cruz entities have to continue demanding it, in unity, all united, in the streets and it is necessary, but we cannot allow work to be between roosters and midnight. of the INE”.
For MAS deputy Ninoska Morales, the march is political and she pointed out that Governor Camacho should request that the Autonomous Council be convened to deal with the issue.
“The Government is complying, there is a supreme decree, it has given it a budget of more than 53 million (dollars), there is the census ballot with worldwide standards, these questions that are going to be asked are asked here or anywhere. part of the world”, pointed out the legislator in an ATB report.
