In epidemiological week number 13 of the year, Bolivia reported 1,156 new cases of covid, which represents a reduction of 28% compared to the previous week. 100% of these infections correspond to the omicron variant, which points to a possible end to the circulation of the delta variant and to the fact that the BA.2 subvariant has not yet arrived in the country.
The Minister of Health and Sports, Jeyson Auza, highlighted, in turn, that this week four deaths from the virus were reported, which, in his opinion, reflects the effectiveness of the vaccines against Covid-19.
According to the data presented by the State portfolio, 91.3% of the 11,113 people who have died from Covid-19 in Bolivia so far were citizens who did not have the complete immunization schedule. In other words, only 8.7% of deaths occurred in individuals who had the complete scheme “and this was surely due to age, an underlying disease or another element that complicates their health situation,” said Auza. .

“In Bolivia, since vaccination was opened to people over 18 years of age, of every 10 people who died from Covid-19, at least nine did not have a complete vaccination schedule,” he stressed.
These data were separated by age range: 100% of the 16 deaths between five and 17 years of age did not have the vaccine; 93.7% of the 159 deaths between 18 and 29 years old were not immunized; 95.2% of the 529 deaths in the group of 30 to 39 years did not have the complete scheme; and 96.5% of the 1,223 people between 40 and 49 years old, 86.3% of the 2,315 between 50 and 59 years old and 89.2% of the 6,990 people over 60 years old, either.
“In absolutely all age ranges, an average of more than 90% of deaths are people who decided not to get vaccinated. The vaccine definitely protects the health and life of the Bolivian people,” he stressed.
