The Mixed Commission of the Constitution, which is carrying out the process of selecting and appointing the Ombudsman, authorized the nomination of the interim authority Nadia Cruz and disqualified the leader of the National Committee for the Defense of Democracy (Conade), Manuel Morales in the phase requirements review.
The Legislative division reported that it concluded with the second day of verification of documents of applicants to the Ombudsman with the review of 145 folders, enabling 65 applicants and disqualifying 72. While eight cases remained pending.

In the review session of the folders, the commission concluded that Cruz complied with the 18 requirements that are required of applicants to the Ombudsman’s Office and determined that the Conade leader failed to comply with one of the requirements.
The registry of applicants to the Ombudsman’s Office closed last Friday with 198 applications. The commission must complete the review on compliance with the requirements by April 9.
After the publication of the list of eligible and disqualified applicants in this stage, the division will receive the challenges. In this phase, disqualified applicants will have four days to present observations on the commission’s decisions.
In addition, the regulation of the process establishes that any individual and collective person may challenge the applicants with “foundation and attaching suitable evidence.”
