During the first quarter of the year, the commerce, services, and tourism sector generated an economic spill of 108,339 million pesos, which, although it meant 25.7% more than in the same period of 2021, was also 44% below those obtained in the period of January-March 2020.

In greater detail, from January to March of last year, sales of 86,188 million were achieved, while in the same period of 2020 revenues of 193,417 million pesos were generated.

In this regard, the president of the Chamber of Commerce, Services and Tourism of Mexico City, José de Jesús Rodríguez, explained that the country’s capital faces a gradual economic recovery that, despite the uncertain international economic course and high inflation, is perceived as stable.

The leader of the trade established in Mexico City stated that for the second quarter of this year, sales of 120,218 million pesos are expected.

“Which would represent an increase of 18.3% compared to 2021 figures, when income was calculated at 101,621 million pesos,” he said.

According to the Capital Canaco, it is projected that the income for this 2022 will be 46.5% higher than those calculated in 2021 (in that year an economic spill of 4,765 million pesos was generated) and also higher than 2020 (when the 2,506 million), but still lower, with 50.5%, than those registered in 2019 (14,104 million were generated).

For its part, the Secretariat of Economic Development (Sedeco) of Mexico City reported that an economic spill is estimated for activities related to the Holy Week celebrations of approximately 5,366 million pesos.

“The foregoing will have an impact on more than 101,000 establishments, such as hotels, restaurants, fish and shellfish marketers, as well as the sale of religious articles; this figure is 12.6% higher than that registered last year”, detailed the capital office.

The Ministry of Tourism of the country’s capital announced that an average occupancy of the order of 52 percent is also expected.
