The General Assembly of United Nationsdecided to suspend Russia as a member of the Human Rights Council.
The decision and subsequent voting took place after the events of Bucha. The resolution had a total of 93 votes in favor, including Uruguay. Then it had 24 votes against and 58 abstentions, including Brazil. Of the 193 members of the assembly, 93 voted in favor of the suspension while 24 voted against it and 58 abstained. In addition to the United States and Ukraine itself, the countries of the European Union, Latin American nations such as: Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Peru or Uruguay supported the measure.
So did other States such as: Australia, Canada, Turkey or Norway. The resolution was also supported by Serbia, which previously refused to impose economic sanctions against the Russian Federation. The nations that voted against are: China, Venezuela, North Korea, Iran, Syria, Nicaragua and Cuba. After the vote, voices began to be raised, after the events. One of them was the Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba.
«War criminals have no place in the UN bodies designed to protect human rights,” he said about the sanction against Russia.
