To guarantee the next harvest and the supply of rice for 2022-2023, the main grain consumed in Panamanian food, the Minister and Vice Minister of Agricultural Development, Augusto Valderrama and Carlo Rognoni, respectively, signed, this Thursday, a resolution that they establish the compensations and payments to the rice sector, without this representing an increase in the product for the Panamanian consumer.
This commitment is part of the instructions of the President of the Republic Laurentino Cortizo Cohen, to ensure food production and the rice harvest, in these difficult times that the World is facing due to the war between Ukraine and Russia, the pandemic and the increase and scarcity of inputs and fertilizers.
The head of the agricultural portfolio stressed that President Cortizo has a permanent campaign to support the agricultural sector to guarantee peace, social, economic and political stability and the recovery of this country.
“We have signed the resolution for the rice sector, which establishes the conditions for payments, recognition of subsidies to guarantee the harvest for the year 22-23 and food supply, as has been done throughout this pandemic. , in which thanks to the producers and their resilience, this Panamanian people has not lacked food”, he highlighted.
Rognoni, for his part, said that this support has been given continuity to sustain the consumer price of premium rice, food security is guaranteed in this country, which is so important at this time of crisis and war.
“With this signature, rice producers are given security to reach that goal of 90,000 hectares, throughout the country, guaranteeing the production of this grain, which is the most consumed. In this way, Minister Valderrama’s team once again complies with the agricultural sector, in these difficult times”, he added.
