After more than 10 hours of meeting, the Government and the country’s butchers signed an agreement to freeze the price of meat and establish controls in the production chain. Thus, the sector decided to lift the pressure measures.

This was announced by the Minister of Productive Development, Néstor Huanca, after reading the document he signed with the representatives of the Confederation of Meat Workers of Bolivia (Contracabol).

“Contracabol ratifies its perpetual commitment to the Bolivian people to avoid an increase in the price of beef to the final consumer throughout the national territory, therefore, Emapa will stop selling meat to the final consumer,” said Huanca when reading one of the points of agreement.

The minister pondered that “we have both agreed that we have to defend the economy of the housewife, in that sense, we ratify as the national government the commitment with Contracabol to supply beef to the Bolivian people.”

The retail butchers of Santa Cruz determine to increase the price per kilo hook of the product from 18 bolivianos to 21 bolivianos.

The agreement establishes controls on the smuggling of “live cattle”, but also establishes the control of the demand and supply of the domestic market.
