On Tuesday, April 5, the Canarian Departmental Board approved a trust of 44 million for works that had the vote of a white mayor.

As a result of the fact, the mayor López received harsh criticism from national legislators, for accompanying the proposal of the mayor of Canelones, Yamandú Orsi.

Iturralde said that he maintained contact with mayor López and after an agreement between the parties it was reached that “he no longer belongs to the National Party.”

“We have reached an understanding. Beyond the fact that he was elected by the National Party, we asked him to resign from the bench, we asked him to act as deputy Gonzalo Mujica acted, when he resigned from the Broad Front and handed over his bench, ”he said.

On the other hand, Iturralde said that the terms used by Orsi did not seem appropriate to him, referring to the fact that the mayor “did not comply with what the centrality of the party had asked of him.”

He also reported that the whites had expressed to Orsi their willingness to reach a “separate” agreement.

“We do not believe that they are the things that exalt politics, it seems to me that for now it is always much better that we Uruguayans go to the differential that we have with other countries to dialogue and reach national understandings, just as we are doing in Montevideo” Iturralde noted.

“The National Party is made up of free but responsible men, who know that politics requires collective and not personal understanding and dialogue,” he stated.

For his part, Mayor Juan López told Telemundo 12 that the trust should be voted on because money is needed in Canelones. In addition, he commented that in 2021 there were councilors from the National Party who planned to vote on the initiative, but there was a “call from the Executive Tower and that is why it was not voted on last year, but it was going to be voted on.”
