Three transfers of items for spare parts and maintenance of patrol boats, construction of three new modular barracks and the acquisition of eight ambulances, were approved by the Budget Commission of the National Assembly of Deputies, to the Ministry of Public Security (Minseg).
In addition to these transfers, which add up to 3,368,161 dollars, the Minister of Public Security, Juan Manuel Pino, explained that the United States Government will donate a second new coastal surveillance patrol boat, for an amount of 8.5 million dollars.
It will be up to the government of Panmaá to contribute the payment of spare parts and maintenance for the two patrol boats, for a total amount of 4 million dollars in the following four years.
“This donation strengthens the maritime capabilities of the National Air and Naval Service in the fight against drug trafficking and crimes committed by organized crime at sea, in addition to reinforcing the sovereignty of the Panamanian State in jurisdictional waters up to 200 nautical miles,” said the Minister.
For the National Border Service, a transfer of departure was requested to build three new modular substations in Pinogana, Punta Alegre and Nuevo Vigía, due to the lack of adequate infrastructure, to satisfy the basic needs of border workers and strengthen operations.
