"There are certain groups that protect drug trafficking, they are recognized authorities, national authorities"says Yerko Terán's lawyer

The lawyer Richard Cayoja, a lawyer who defends the interests of the former director of the Mobile Patrol Unit (Umopar) Chapare, Lieutenant Colonel Yerko Terán, assured that there are “certain groups” within the anti-drug forces what protect and promote illicit drug trafficking activities.

“The complaint has been clear and forceful, there are certain groups that protect drug trafficking, those who promote drug trafficking and the same They are recognized authorities, national authorities,” he assured. in an interview with Erbol.

On April 5, the lawyer filed a complaint against Colonel Jaime Arancibia, current National Commander of Umopar. According to the testimony offered by Terán before the anti-narcotics prosecutor of Chimoré, Arancibia ordered him to abandon the anti-drug operation on March 25 in the Valle Sacta del Chapare.

The operation was known to the Deputy Minister of Social Defense and Controlled Substances, Jaime Mamani, who would have “ordered” a colonel for Terán to “leave the place.”

As a result of this frustrated operation, Teran was dismissed and withdrawn from his post. Cayoja alleges that Arancibia told his client that “they couldn’t work together” after what happened.

The complaint He appeared before the Chimoré Prosecutor’s Office. In it, Arancibia is accused of alleged commission of crimes of passive bribery, improper use of influenceconcussion, resolutions contrary to the Constitution and breach of duties.

The lawyer will go tomorrow to the Prosecutor’s Office to know the progress of the complaint. There is a possibility that the prosecutor in charge may ask to transfer the case to Ivirgarzama, a jurisdiction that encompasses the Sacred Valley.

MAS bench investigates Velasco’s background

The head of the MAS bench in the Chamber of Deputies, Gualberto Arispe, has requested information from the Minister of Government, Eduardo Del Castillo, so that explain the appointment of Colonel José María Velasco as national director of the Special Force to Fight Drug Trafficking (Felcn).

According to Arispe at a press conference, Velasco acted as “hostess” by Jeanine Áñez and he was in charge of escorting her in November 2019 when she arrived at the El Alto airport before assuming the presidency.

The MAS deputy questions how Velasco was appointed to the position of National Director of the Felcn. “It draws attention and in that sense we are asking, through a Request for a Written Report to the Ministry of Government, so that it can inform us in what way (Velasco) has been designated, if they reviewed his background,” he said.
