The Consumer Price Index (CPI) in March had another rise of 1.11% in March and closed the year-on-year (from March 2021 to March 2022) at 9.38%, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics (INE).
By items, the increases were:
- Food and non-alcoholic beverages: 0.68%, rise pressured by bread and cereals, meat, milk, eggs and cheese, fruit and vegetables, vegetables and preserves.
- Restaurants and hotels: their rates rose 0.10%.
- Transport: it rose 0.06% pushed by the rise in fuel prices.
- Recreation and culture: 0.05% was the rise for consumers in this sector. It is due to the increase in food for dogs, sports clubs and gyms and recreational services.
- Education: 0.04%.
- Miscellaneous goods and services: 0.07%.
Salary lags behind
The INE collects the evolution of wages, which was once again behind the year-on-year inflation reported in March.
The Average Salary Index (IMS) from March 2021 to March 2022 was 6.96%, a loss of purchasing power of 2.42% for consumers.
For its part, the interannual increase in the National Producer Price Index (IPPN), which is the evolution over time of the producer prices of a set of goods and services produced in the country, was 22.94%.
