The national government will propose that primary schools throughout the country dictate one more hour of class per day, so the workload per shift will go from four to five hours, which will require an investment of 18,000 million pesos, official sources reported. .

The proposal will be presented on Friday by the Minister of Education, Jaime Perczyk, at the Federal Council of Education (CFE) with the purpose of “adding class hours”which is equivalent to “more knowledge and better education”, explained the head of the educational portfolio in a statement

“It is a very important improvement for the primary school,” said Perczyk, who stressed that the proposal will be presented at the CFE meeting that will take place on Friday in Tierra del Fuego.

He clarified that “this requires the construction of agreements and consensus with the jurisdictions and the unions” and pointed out that this extra hour per day “means having 38 more days of class per year” and explained that the idea is that this modification be carried out in a progressive in the 24 jurisdictions

He mentioned that teachers will receive “a proportional increase for the new working day.”

“The national government has education as a priority and that is why this new investment of 18 billion pesos to contribute 80% of the increase in teachers’ salaries,” he stressed.

What will the new scheme look like?

held that from the educational portfolio “we propose that the morning shift be from 7 to 12 or from 7.30 to 12.30 and the afternoon shift to be from 1 to 6 pm or from 1.15 to 6.15 pm.”

“We have to prepare our schools so that they educate and train girls and boys for what the 21st century demands of us,” he stressed and said that that hour that is added to the school day “has to be preferably affected by the teaching of mathematics , language and reading.

He argued that “to learn to read and write, to be able to express yourself, you have to write and read every day and something similar happens with mathematics. To learn it, you have to practice it every day at school and at home.”

Perczyk recalled that this year more than eight million language and math books were distributed to all primary school students in the country.

He also advanced that in the medium term “we have to create the conditions, especially infrastructure, to achieve the universalization of the full day.”

The decision to intensify the workload in primary school is due to the need to increase the knowledge of students in language and mathematics, two subjects considered key by the Ministry of Education, in order to recover the content not learned due to the pandemic.

In this order, the national government launched a program for the delivery of children’s literature books for children of the initial level that have already begun to arrive in schools throughout the country.

“The books are for children throughout the country, so that they can take them from school to home and from home to school,” said the minister on the occasion of launching the program and assured that this delivery of books also obeys to “families being involved in their children’s learning.

Perczyk noted that the intensification of learning in language and mathematics “allows the construction of other more complex learning”.

On March 2, the school year began in almost all provinces and the objective of the educational portfolio is for students this year to recover the knowledge lost in the months in which schools were closed due to the pandemic.

To this end, summer schools were implemented last January and February in some provinces and in Buenos Aires, which has the largest school enrollment in the country, counter-shift learning was intensified through the ATR program, for which substitute teachers were employed. and students of the last years of the race.

“The 2022 school year starts with 13 million boys and girls in person, and the key is to try to recover knowledge, we have lost a lot in these two years,” Perczyk stressed.
