The visiting minister of the Martial Court, Romy Rutherford, submitted tonight to trial the former commander in chief of the Army, Ricardo Martínez Menanteau, as the author of fraud to the treasury in the Tourism Companies area of the so-called Fraud Case in the Army.
The magistrate held, at this procedural stage, the retired general responsible for eight crimes, for a total amount of $44,871,911, corresponding to the period from February 2011 to October 2017.
Rutherford arranged for Martínez to be remanded in custody at the Peñalolén Military Police Battalion. Likewise, he decreed the full legal arraignment of the defendant, and ordered the seizure of assets for a total amount of $50 million.
Once notified of the resolution, General (r) Martínez Menanteau reserved his right to appeal the indictment and did not request his release on bail.
